Hammerite is a versatile paint. It will encapsulate and stop existing rust as well as preventing new rust. It can be used on any metal surface interior or exterior.
As you use Hammerite, make sure that you keep stirring, because it dries very quickly.
It is a self-priming paint and does not need a primer, with two exceptions: galvanized steel or aluminum. If you’re painting surfaces made of either of these materials then you will need to use a primer.
Knock off any loose rust with a wire brush.
The paint will be dry to the touch in 20 minutes and you want to recoat in 30 to 45 minutes. You need to recoat with in four hours. After four hours, you need to wait three days to recoat for the smooth finish and 14 days to recoat the hammered finish.
